E-commerce is the promotion, purchase and sale of goods or services over the Internet, including electronic transactions such as online ordering, payment processing and product delivery. Online stores or online marketplaces are typical examples of e-commerce. The technical basis for selling products or services on the Internet is usually one of the many e-commerce platforms available on the market, sometimes also customized solutions developed specifically for a company. The most important functionalities of these e-commerce platforms are product and catalog management, order and inventory management, customer management, payment processing and evaluation functions.
