Technical Specifications
In warehouse operations, packaging is the step that turns picked goods into a shipment-ready unit. It helps ensure the right items are packed together, reduces returns caused by incorrect packaging, and keeps outbound processes fast and controlled. For that reason, the web app supports both efficient packing and practical workstation setup with a printer and scale.
The Packaging Web App supports the packing of picked goods. Packaging units are created from picked goods that are provided in picking containers. Packing is usually carried out for a specific shipping order, which allows that multiple picking containers can be brought together for packing.
In principle, work at packing stations can follow either the push or the pull principle. This depends on how the process is integrated. Pickers place the goods at the packing station or at a buffer area for several packing stations. The packer then must select the next order.
The working methods differ as follows:
A special case is Pick&Pack, which is also supported by the Packaging Web App. In this case, the picker places the picked goods directly into a shipping carton. No repacking is then required at the packing station. The carton is simply closed and, if needed, provided with a label and/or a packing slip.
The packaging process starts with the selection of a shipment (Pull Principle) for packaging or the selection of a picking container (Push principle) which contains a shipment.
The Packaging Web App uses a specific User Interface, which is designed to support the packing process. It differs from most of the other Bitergo Web Apps.
The packaging user interface consists of two main areas. The left area shows the contents of a picking container, and the right area shows the content of the final package. After having selected a shipment or a picking container, the packer must select a packaging, in which the goods will be packed. Then he must remove the goods one after the other from the picking container and put them into the packaging. The packer completes the process by closing the pack and printing the necessary labels and delivery notes as configured. If your workflow uses the Pick and Pack method, the pickers already deliver the shipment packed into the final package, so the packer just must close the already delivered package and print the necessary labels and delivery notes.
The menu icon on the right side of the header gives you access to the following general functions:
Click the "Select..." Function Button in the upper left corner of the interface to select a shipment. The modal "Select shipment" opens, which displays a list of all available shipments, that have been delivered to this packing station.
Select a shipment out of the list and press OK. This loads the information about the shipment into the picking container area on the left side of the screen. All the handling units, their contents (the items to be packed) and the specified quantities are depicted here.
Click the "New..." Function Button in the bottom right corner of the interface to create a new pack unit. The modal "Create pack unit" opens. The number of the pack unit needs to be defined. You can scan the code of the pack unit or enter a pack unit number and select one packaging type out of the preconfigured standard packaging types in the dropdown menu.
Select a packaging type and click OK to close the modal and create the new pack unit.
The newly created pack unit appears on the left side of the screen in the "Packs" table.
Select an item in the picking container on the left side of the screen and click the "Pack" Button. The item moves from the left side to the right side, into the new pack unit.
Now repeat this process with the real goods: Pick the item(s) from the container and place it/them into the pack unit.
Repeat with all the items until you have packed all the items in the pack unit.
After having put all the items of a shipment in a pack unit, you need to close it. Click "Close pack". The "Close pack" modal opens.
Here you can print all the necessary labels, if configured in the system:
Click OK to close the pack unit.
Click the "Container..." Function Button in the upper left corner of the interface to select a picking container. The modal "Picking Container Choice" opens. Scan the picking container or enter the picking container unit manually and click OK to confirm the selection and close the modal.

The packaging workplaces are bound to the configuration of specific bin locations that are positioned before and after the workplace. They need to be defined in the master data web app. Please consult the Bitergo support team for the correct configuration of your master data.
Standard packagings are defined in the master data web app as load support types and need to have the classification "LOGMALL:Verpackung".
