Introduction

In warehouse operations, packaging is the step that turns picked goods into a shipment-ready unit. It helps ensure the right items are packed together, reduces returns caused by incorrect packaging, and keeps outbound processes fast and controlled. For that reason, the web app supports both efficient packing and practical workstation setup with a printer and scale.

Basic Concepts

The Packaging Web App supports the packing of picked goods. Packaging units are created from picked goods that are provided in picking containers. Packing is usually carried out for a specific shipping order, which allows that multiple picking containers can be brought together for packing.

In principle, work at packing stations can follow either the push or the pull principle. This depends on how the process is integrated. Pickers place the goods at the packing station or at a buffer area for several packing stations. The packer then must select the next order.

The working methods differ as follows:

  • Pull principle: The packer looks at the next possible shipping orders, selects the best one, and then finds the matching picking container in the provision area. In the packing dialog, only those shipping orders are shown that have been fully provided by picking for packing.
  • Push principle: The packer takes the next picking container without further checking and uses the container ID scan to retrieve the matching shipping order. At this point, a note may appear if additional picking containers still belong to the order or if picking has not yet been completed.... Both working methods are effectively supported by the Packaging Web App. Packing ends with the placement of the packed goods at a packing station, which can be configured individually for each packing station.

A special case is Pick&Pack, which is also supported by the Packaging Web App. In this case, the picker places the picked goods directly into a shipping carton. No repacking is then required at the packing station. The carton is simply closed and, if needed, provided with a label and/or a packing slip.

The packaging process starts with the selection of a shipment (Pull Principle) for packaging or the selection of a picking container (Push principle) which contains a shipment.

The Packaging Web App uses a specific User Interface, which is designed to support the packing process. It differs from most of the other Bitergo Web Apps.

The packaging user interface consists of two main areas. The left area shows the contents of a picking container, and the right area shows the content of the final package. After having selected a shipment or a picking container, the packer must select a packaging, in which the goods will be packed. Then he must remove the goods one after the other from the picking container and put them into the packaging. The packer completes the process by closing the pack and printing the necessary labels and delivery notes as configured. If your workflow uses the Pick and Pack method, the pickers already deliver the shipment packed into the final package, so the packer just must close the already delivered package and print the necessary labels and delivery notes.

Header Menu

Technical Specifications

The packaging workplaces are bound to the configuration of specific bin locations that are positioned before and after the workplace. They need to be defined in the master data web app. Please consult the Bitergo support team for the correct configuration of your master data.

  • Location before workplace: This is a bin location to which the picked shipments are transported for packaging. They need to have the classification "LOGMALL:Verpackung"
  • Location after workplace: This is the bin location after the workplace, to which the packaged shipment is transported for shipping. They need to have the classification "LOGMALL:Warenausgang" or "LOGMALL:Versand"

Standard packagings are defined in the master data web app as load support types and need to have the classification "LOGMALL:Verpackung".
